Dave Burd on the rise as a rap artist

By Chad Van Wyk

Everybody has their own individual taste in music and many have taken an interest in young rapper, Lil Dicky (Dave Burd). Dave Burd was raised in a Jewish family on the outskirts of Philadelphia; it was there we picked up an interest in rapping.

He got his undergrad at the University of Richmond in business and quickly started his career in that field, but he realized that’s not what he wanted to do with his life. He then used his Bar Mitzvah money to start his career in Rap music.

Lil Dicky’s music is mostly comedic, but he has some art that’s more on the serious side. There is profanity in his music, which may be quite a bit for somebody new to his style, but he does stray away from using racial slurs unlike many rappers today.

Most of his music is a reflection on his interests. Dave also wanted to be a comedian, so he decided to put his interests together becoming a comedic rapper. His most recent album (also his debut album) “Professional Rapper” is a mixture of many comedic songs and very serious songs that tells stories about things that he cares about.

He collaborated with Snoop Dogg, Brendon Urie (lead singer of Panic! at the Disco), Rich Homie Quan, Fetty Wap, Jace (of Two-9), and Brain. “Professional Rapper” reached the number one spot on iTunes above artists such as Taylor Swift and Justin Bieber.

Lil Dicky’s music and interviews can be easily found on Youtube. “Professional Rapper” and his previous singles are on Spotify and iTunes. Below are links to his Youtube videos and his Twitter profile.
