Two Greenwood High School students, Emma Bryant and Arzu Bakhadir, were interviewed about forgotten TV shows from their early childhood to explain how their childhood shows affected them, and how they still have an impact on their lives.
Arzu Bakhadir, a freshman at Greenwood High School, talked about how all of the shows she watched as a kid were on YouTube, stating that she never used other services like Netflix. She was very assured when she said this, clearly remembering this detail well. When asked about the shows themselves, she pondered a long time before listing a lot of different shows and movies. This included My Little Pony, Barbie, Monster High, and Masha and the Bear. She even noted how some of these shows she watched when she was older than the target demographic, being in her later years of elementary school and throughout middle school. Bakhadir also said that her favorite shows were Monster High and My Little Pony, which she watched when she was older. These shows obviously mean a lot to her, as she was quick to answer the question. From her two favorite shows, she talked about how My Little Pony taught her how to be a good friend, helping her build relationships with those around her and just be a better person in general. She explained that she was impacted by Monster High, which inspired her to be more stylish as she got older from how the characters in the show dressed themselves up and wore their clothes with confidence. Bakhadir elaborated that these shows even affected her personality in a way, believing that it made her a more compassionate and approachable person. Something she stated nonchalantly, fully believing that these shows positively impacted her as she grew to make her into who she is now.
Emma Bryant, a ninth grade student at Greenwood High School, discussed the shows that she enjoyed during her childhood and how it applies to her today. Bryant went on to explain that if she were to watch shows, she would watch them on Netflix, but she expressed that she preferred videos on YouTube instead. Bryant described her favorite shows as Liv and Maddie, Sam and Cat, Henry Danger, Bo on the Go, PUCCA, and emphasized her blatant favoritism towards Victorious. “My favorites are Victorious and Jessie.” Bryant had a confident and unfaltering tone as she included that, conveying that she is genuine about her enjoyment of the following shows. Upon being questioned about what she learned from them, her response was simple but honest as she expressed that it taught her to embrace her sense of humor and wit along with attitude, further influencing her to be more talkative and outgoing as she has grown older. Bryant stated that she thinks that what she watched affected her personality in the sense of her always wanting to be one of the characters in the show. She further explained that she felt a connection towards “mostly the funnier ones, or the ones with the most attitude.” As she explained, it was relatively similar to her response from the previous question, but that just goes to prove that she is honest and truthful of her answer.
After talking to Ms. Morris, it has been concluded that yes, the shows you watch in your early childhood affect you because the third party claimed that the cartoon My Little Pony made these two people have a much more positive outlook on life, and that the show Monster High made them more extroverted and comfortable to be around.
