In the United States, one of the fastest growing sports is men’s volleyball. However, many schools barely have this sport in their school, which has made some students ask their school to add this sport. Luckily, at Greenwood this year, we have made a men’s volleyball team, but there is only one freshman on the team. That is why Mee Reh (a freshman) and Krish Parekh (a freshman) will be getting asked if they will join the volleyball team as sophomores.
First, Mee thinks he will join the volleyball team next year. Everyone has their benefits and downsides while playing, and he said, “I think my benefits while playing is that I am a team person and have some experience. But, my downsides would be my height since everyone is about 6 foot, and they usually play best, and I don’t have that.” Next, volleyball can be exciting or boring for some people, so whenever Mee was asked about what is fun about volleyball, he replied back saying, “It’s like don’t let the balloon hit the ground at an extreme level. You also don’t get fouled as much and anyone can play it, so that really makes it fun when anyone can play it.” Then, he was asked if there was anyone that influenced him to want to join, and he pointed to me and said, “You” with a grin. This meant that I was the one who made him look forward to joining. Lastly, his best mindset while playing is trying your best, even if you only score one point.
Next, Krish also believes he will join the volleyball team for the 26/27 season. When asked about the benefits and downsides, he replied, “My benefits are that I don’t have to work that much since the court is small, and then the downside I have is that I am kinda short.” Also, Krish said that his favorite part about volleyball is setting, receiving, and spiking the ball. Then, since Mee said that I was the one who influenced him, he was asked the same question. However, he said no one really influenced him to join, and he joined because it was fun and was decent at it. Finally, when Krish was asked about his best mindset while playing, he stated, “Believe in yourself and don’t give up.”
In conclusion, both of these freshmen are looking forward to volleyball next year as sophomores. Mee and Krish both have benefits and downsides, but with enough play time, they can succeed and do good on the team.
