What Do Students Look Forward Too In the Weeks leading up to spring break?
Students are always so excited during the final weeks before spring break. Why are students so eager to go home for spring break? Maybe they want to go home and sleep in, or they have a beach trip planned. Many students are happy to be free from school because they get stressed over work and keeping their grades up. Students use these days as a break to unwind and forget about school. It is also seen as a reminder that school is almost out and summer is on the way! With the warm weather and flowers blooming, students can get out of that winter depression. Spring break can be seen as a mental decompression, which is why students are so excited. Traveling is good for the mind, body and soul. It is good for the mind because it gives a break from the schoolwork. It is good for the body because it gives a chance to break the routine of waking up at a certain time and getting ready. Your body is in a loop; spring break is a time to break that loop, unwind, and give free time to sleep in and adjust.
Jullia Dahlin, a senior, announced that she is excited for Easter, and she is excited to spend time with her host family. Dahlin is an exchange student from Sweden and enjoys spending time with her host family because their bonds get stronger and she enjoys their company. She also said, “It’s also going to be nice to have a break from school.” She says she enjoys the breaks from school because she feels more motivated when it is time to go back. She said she feels more motivated because she had time to clear out her brain, and when she returns, it is like a clean slate for her.
One thing Dahlin loves to do during spring break is spend time outside. She enjoys spending time outside during hot sunny days because the weather is getting warmer and she enjoys it more than winter, which she describes as cold and upsetting. She often craves hot weather with wind, and she enjoys the flowers and butterflies in the spring.
Dahlin also expressed that she enjoys the traditions that come with spring break such as Easter. She is very excited to celebrate her first year here in America with her host family. She explained how Sweden and America celebrate Easter differently. She exclaimed that she was excited to experience it.
Dahlin knows that she will get time off school which helps her stay motivated and focus. She usually counts down the days to see how close the break is getting. She has a lot of anticipation, and when the final bell rings, she gets so excited for that nice week off when she can do whatever she wants and stay up late if she chooses to. Dahlin expressed that she does not normally stay up late, and she has a routine where she gets ready for bed. She also recognized the fact that if she chose to, she would be able to stay up late, but she does not want to mess up her schedule.
This was just Julia Dahlin’s thoughts before spring break. Maybe other students feel the same. But, not all students enjoy spring break. There are many students who each have different experiences on spring break.
