FBLA Club Spotlight

FBLA stands for Future Business Leaders of America. This club was founded in 1940 and has been established at Greenwood since the school was opened in 1990. FBLA was created to teach students leadership skills and incorporate these skills throughout classes.

Any student can join this club but it is preferred that the student is enrolled in at least one business class or is interested in acquiring business and/or leadership skills. To join the club you have to pay the club dues of $20. This money goes toward T-shirts that are provided and state competition, that many members will attend, at the end of the year.

FBLA is involved in many different programs and organizations throughout the school year, including the Naked Turkey Fundraiser where students at Greenwood use money to buy turkey feathers to put on the teacher turkey of choice. The teacher with the most feathers at the end of the fundraiser gets a pie in their face at a pep rally.

They also attend Nashville Predator Leadership Night where students get a behind-the-scenes tour of the Predators Arena as well as getting to be in a forum with the office staff of the Predators to learn about the different sport jobs you can have like marketing and management. Hockey isn’t the only sport FBLA members get some experience with. They also experience the Tennessee Titans Learning Lab, where students are introduced to different jobs dealing with sports at the Titans Stadium, and many more.

FBLA students attend the State and Regional Leadership Conferences, where the best students compete in leadership activities and learn new ideas and way to shape their future careers.  Unite to Serve, where all Career and Business students come together to help out the community or school, is an annual FBLA favorite.

On Friday, March 4, 40 FBLA members traveled to Kentucky Wesleyan College in Owensboro for the Region 2 Leadership Conference. Nine of the members came back with awards and will be able to compete at the State Conference in Louisville. These members are:

1st Place: Ameli Bosnjakovic, Juan Zamora, Katherine Morrison, Izzy Hunt, Shelby Handley, Kaelyn Agnew, Allie Perkins, Kaylee Willgruber, Leah Martens.

2nd Place: Anna Scott, Catherine Gott, Jacob Young, Zach Finch, Austin Schneller.

3rd Place: Jordan Poteet, Brittany Reels, Grant Tade, Zoe Whitson, Austin Reiser, Michael Shaffer, Davis Taylor.

These students travel to Louisville to compete in states on April 18-20.
