The Owensboro Rampage is a joint high school hockey team that is compiled of 8 schools; including Greenwood, South Warren and Bowling Green. The team recently just won the Kentucky High School Hockey League’s state championship against Louisville Trinity. The Rampage beat Trinity 6-0 to close out the season and return to Owensboro as champions.

Greenwood senior Eric Schwender was on the winning team. Eric has been on the Rampage for the past two seasons and ended this season with 5 points (5 assists). Eric plans on going to medical school after graduation. South Warren senior Nathaniel Wilson ended the season with 30 points and is going to Mid Tennessee to play ice hockey. Bowling Green students Davis Cross (senior) and Caine Burke (sophomore)  are also on the team, Davis ending the season with 68 points.. Davis Cross will also go on to play college level ice hockey.

Owensboro was very strong throughout most of the season after going 4-11 to start the season. After that the Rampage went 29-3-3, ending the season on a high note. Aside from the State Tournament, Owensboro won two other tournaments this season; the Adam Allgeyer Memorial tournament in Columbus, Ohio and the New Year’s Tournament in Knoxville, Tennessee.

The Rampage beat Henry Clay 2-1 in the first round of playoffs, and went on to play Dunbar in the semi-finals and beat won 6-1. The Rampage then went on to dismantle Trinity in the State Finals.

Caine Burke said “Trinity was talking so much trash before the game (Trinity tied the Rampage earlier in the season) and after we won, they lied about their score on their school website. It doesn’t matter because we’ll do it again next year” bold words, but Caine thinks the team is going to do big things in his Junior year.
