Do Violent Video Games Make People More Violent in Real Life?

Just because you play a racing game doesn’t make you a racer. Just because you play a cooking game doesn’t make you a chef. Just because you play a sports games doesn’t make you an athlete. So just because you play violent games, doesn’t make you a violent person.

I believe in my own opinion that violent games don’t make violent people in the real world. I play violent games myself, gruesome, gore, shooting, killing games. Do the games I play define me as who I am as a person? Honestly no, playing those games are just a somewhat interest to me. I have played some before and that doesn’t make me want to do anything, violent. I do not think that playing a violent video game will hurt or harm anyone in anyway.

As for some parents believe that their children do bad things because they listen to hard rock, metal music, and the violent and bad video games they are playing. The music and games are not an excuse for one’s behavior. The way you react to the game is the real problem, if you have a mental state where you think killing or shooting people in the real life is somewhat okay then that’s on you, not on the game that you are currently playing. If you do use the game as an excuse then that’s wrong because the fault was on you.

For example, I play a video game called “Left 4 Dead” on the Xbox 360. The game is a survival zombie killing game. Does that make me want to go out and start killing people I see, no.

Another example of a game would be Grand Theft Auto. People play it not just because of the killing or fighting in the game some people play it for an other reasons like the fast cars, the cool music, the awesome scenery. There are other reasons to play violent games other than just its violent.

Some people also see violent games as “stress relievers.” Most people use the game to just escape reality.  Like if you had a bad day or a bad situation, you have something to look forward to at the end of the day. You can let your anger out on the game than rather doing something in real life, and start a violent situation that you can’t finish.

It’s kinda like that question that stores sometimes ask themselves, should we sell these violent games to minors? Obviously with me as a minor there is no problem in that because it doesn’t influence me in any way to be or act violent, I just play the game for simple enjoyment of playing that certain game.

Overall, I do not think that violent games make violent people. The games are played for enjoyment and entertainment. If you have the urge to do something willingly bad. It’s not the games fault. It’s the person who’s playing it.
