Archery team takes off

By Alyssa Skinner and Molly Carr

Many people don’t know but last year Greenwood High School started an archery team.  This team began practicing in the fall and competed in many competitions throughout the winter and spring.  Although archery is not a well known sport it can be very fun.

Archery is the sport or skill of shooting with a bow and arrows at a target.  A target has five different colored rings and each color has two rings, which totals to 10 rings in all.  Each of the 10 rings are scored between 0 and 10; 0 being the lowest score and 10 being the highest.  (Look at picture to see how target is scored.)  The highest score you can get when you add all the points up is 300.

When you go to shoot you will receive two practice rounds before the scoring rounds begin, one of the rounds will be from 10 meters and the other from 15 meters. Then when you shoot to score you have a total of 6 rounds, and each round consists of five arrows; 3 rounds will be shot from 10 meters and the last 3 rounds shot from 15 meters.

Although the process sounds difficult it’s really not once you begin to practice.  If this sounds like something you would like to do then contact Coach Adams at tony.adams@warren.kyschools.us or in Room 193.

If you already know you are going to join the team please come to practice on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 from 7-8p.m. at Drakes Creek Middle School to find out more information.
