The girl’s lacrosse season has started once again, and they are four games into the season, two of which have been scrimmages with other teams.
Practice
I spoke to three players on the lacrosse team, and they said that the team has split up the offense and defense during practice. They stated that this has helped a ton with how the team plays together and cooperates. Along with this, they have practice every day (except Fridays) and have games on weekends. Before the season, Olive Jaynes (a senior), who is the team’s goalie, reported that most of the team got together and practiced a lot, and she said that it helped a lot. One of the team captains, Sarah Rowland (senior), said that she did physical training all summer and even changed her diet to get ready for lacrosse, and it reportedly worked very well.
The Games
They have already had a few games this season, with one being out in Lexington, Kentucky, where they faced off against Tates Creek’s team and barely won by two points. All three team members that I spoke to said that they did the best at this game so far. Another one of the team’s captains, Lily Burris (senior), stated that it was very hard, but they managed to make it out on top. Burris also said that one strategy that helped win the game was going in aggressively and making sure that the whole team was on the same page. According to Olive Jaynes, this is not usually an issue because everyone gets along pretty well.
On the Field
When asked about what it is like actually on the field, Burris said that she feels a “state of community” with the team. She understands what her teammates will do on the field because of all their practice and drills. She stated that it feels very uplifting. Olive agreed and said that it is a lot of fun out on the field, especially because everyone on the team are friends.
