The Greenwood High School Junior Varsity Boys Soccer Team is a group of great driving athletes. Several with big goals and future plans for themselves. Players Micha Nyah, Baca Qehaja, and Asdiel Ayala gave their
opinions and answers on some personal questions when it comes to being an athlete.
Micah Nyah, a two-year soccer player, plays center attacker for the Greenwood High School Junior Varsity Boys Soccer Team. One of Micah’s strengths that make him a great athlete are, “being able to use both of my feet when I play.” This ability can also be known as am bipedal or ambidextrous. Micah says, “I got my passion for playing soccer from Athlete Christiano Ronaldo.” When asked about a coach or athlete he looks up to as a player, Micha responds with “Joe Pagett, Tony Hercules, Andy Alfaro, and Ronaldo.” Micah says, “Dealing with sports and homework at the same time is a struggle a lot of the time for many High School athletes.”
Baca Qehaja, who has been playing soccer since his fourth-grade year (six years) and plays right wing for the Greenwood High School Junior Varsity Boys Soccer team. Baca served as a team captain during his last season. Baca says, “In the past, I learned that I had to overcome differences between my teammates and learn
to play the right way with them.” If Baca saw a teammate struggling to learn a new move or play, “I would assist them by running them through the techniques.” “The best piece of advice I’ve gained from my coaches is to be calm during the game.” Baca also claims, “You can even take this advice into life in general.” As a former South Warren High School player, he claims, “A couple of weeks ago, I passed the ball to a South Warren soccer player forgetting that I don’t play for that team anymore.” He states, “This helped me focus on my current team and to learn from my mistakes.” Also previously playing for South has taught him different techniques and how to better understand playing against opposing teams.
Asdiel Ayala, a ten-year long soccer player, who plays as a center attacker and winger for the Greenwood High School Junior Varsity Boys Soccer team. Asdiel states, “Our season is going pretty well so far, as we are currently going on undefeated.” Asdiel’s main goal for this year’s soccer season, he says, “is to win district”. His strengths as a player are, “always wanting to get better and also believing that I can.” His weaknesses are, “using my left foot, so I am currently working on training it.” Athletes or coaches Asdiel looks up to are Andy Alfara, Carlos Hercules, and Vini Jr. Asdiel’s favorite soccer team is, “The Real Madrid.”
As the season continues, these players will continue to do their best and to lead with passion. Greenwood High School is lucky to have such amazing players. The environment hopes to continue to see these players seek more and more knowledge and skill throughout their sporting career.
