Our very own Greenwood Highs Drama Club returns with a fresh coat of paint with its first meeting on September 15th, 2023.
This Friday sparks a new leaf for Greenwoods Drama Club (now being led by the renowned journalism and English teacher Ms. Marybeth McGinty) as it will be the first official meeting since the Beauty and The Beast musical back in early 2022 AND the first year without the involvement of previous GH theater teacher: Ms.Erica Cassady.
This year we get a chance to make Ms. Cassady proud and attract a new audience, a chance to offer a safe space to some new freshmen faces.
And that’s the goal – offering a safe space for those who may not have it at home, as well as a way for us theater kids to express ourselves through various forms of art.
We (at the drama club) have music, singing, costume design, you name it we probably have it!
Now, all that’s left to do is see what the students think about it, afterall, we did some join (besides obvious love of theater) while others preferred not to (besides indifference to theater)
Two good friends of mine Rosalynda Fabian and Ava Emberton, both in the club, states their reason as, “I don’t know, everyone else was joining it..and there was McGinty..” as stated by Rosalynda. “It seemed like fun, and I was bribed into doing it by “Grey..” (Previous part of the Musical crew) stated Ava.
Despite their lack of vocal enthusiasm, there’s some comradery in theater, dare one say there’s some friendship. No matter what you call it, this journalist can tell that it’s going to be a good year.
