By Maycie Sewell

Jessica Peterson is a great class president at Greenwood High School! She has lived in Bowling Green Kentucky the majority of her life. However, she used to live in Mayfield, Kentucky when she was very young. Jessica does many after-school activities such as basketball, organizes events such as creek week, and pole vaulting for the track team. Anything she sets her mind to she can accomplish!

Jessica Peterson is a senior at Greenwood High School and is very determined. Jessica states, “I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes when I was in 4th grade. And from then on it kind of gave me this spunk, if you tell me I can’t do something I’m going to do it.” She pushes herself to do so much, and she never stops working

Jessica does have seasonal depression and it gets hard to do certain things such as daily activities, she says, “I’ve been kind of slacking recently because I just haven’t had the energy to do it and now I’m coming out of that as the sun has started shining and the flowers have started blooming.” Whenever Jessica isn’t struggling with seasonal depression she does everything to her full ability so when she can’t do that she says “I feel like I let a lot of people down.”

Seasonal depression is a very real thing and lots of people struggle with it. According to American Psychiatric Association, “About 5 percent of adults in the U.S. experience SA (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and it typically lasts about 40 percent of the year. It is more common among women than men.

Although she has a very packed schedule Jessica still makes time to participate in the Governor’s Scholars Program that she was selected for in 2022.  So, even the most productive and driven people struggle with Seasonal Depression. Jessica Peterson is an excellent class president!
