Greenwood Secures District 14 Tournament Win

On Thursday Oct. 12, Greenwood volleyball battled South Warren and was able to pull out an impressive win, securing them a spot in the Region 4 tournament.

After defeating South Warren two times in the regular season, it was no surprise that Greenwood was able to pull out yet another win.

The Lady Gators were able to trounce South Warren in the first set, winning 25-22. Greenwood was able to overcome a 13-all tie when the Lady Gators surged ahead five points with three kills coming from Katie Howard.

Greenwood came up short during the second set when South Warren was able to power ahead and earn a 23-25 win.

However, the Lady Gators didn’t give up.

Greenwood was able to dig deep and win the next two sets, 25-14 and 25-22.

Howard led the group with an impressive 31 kills. Emmie Bender racked up another nine kills and Julia Kennedy had 53 assists and four aces.

Kennedy and Howard were both placed on the all-tournament team along with Annee Lasley and Anna Hewitt.

Greenwood will advance to the Region 4 tournament beginning Monday, pairings will be decided on Saturday morning.
