Technology has taken a weird turn in our modern day society. We see new machinery in ads and wonder what we could possibly use it for. Technology has developed a lot over time and still continues to advance.

We use technology in our everyday lives. A lot of us have a device whether it be a phone, laptop, gaming system, or computer. We rely on our phones a lot these days. We use google to search up anything we want. For example, we search up stores to see what time it opens or closes. We also search up things as simple as movies, restaurants, celebrities, the weather, and we also like to online shop. If you think about it, our lives basically depend on technology. It would be very difficult to live in this world without the technology that we have today.

Technology that helps us doesn’t just have to be devices, its could things in your home such as an air conditioner, a TV, a microwave, an oven, and a refrigerator. These things help us and we generally don’t notice that often, we look past it. Without AC we would be unsatisfied with the temperature in our home. Appliances are essential for a home to be livable. However, a TV is not really useful, it is only there for entertainment and for our pleasure.

A car is also a piece of technology that has changed our lives. Cars have been a big help for us because it is easier and faster transportation. We use cars to get to and from places. Some examples of when we use cars are when going to the store, to school, the doctor, the dentist, etc. However, cars do cause a lot of pollution which ultimately affects our world.

Phones have impacted our lives in many good and bad ways. Your phone is like your baby, when you lose it you freak out. Most of us have it with us all the time. There are a lot of people out there who are actually addicted to their phone and can’t live without it. A phone provides us many useful apps (all on iPhone), such as the calculator app, Maps, Notes, Mail, Clock, Camera, iMessage, etc. Without these apps we wouldn’t be able to do a lot of things. The calculator app helps us with solving math problems; Maps help us with getting to certain locations like someone’s house or a store; On the Notes app we could put personal information in it or just anything so we don’t forget it, such as our passwords for our accounts; We have mail so companies, brands, or anyone can e-mail you with useful information; On the Clock app we can set timers for many things such as waking up for school or to let us know when our food is done; The Camera app lets us capture pictures and videos; The iMessage and Phone app lets us text and call people.

When asking, “How does your phone impact your life?”, Greenwood student Josie Huffman says, “It helps me learn new information about certain topics. My phone lets me listen to music and play games, but my phone can be very distracting sometimes, which is not good.” Another Greenwood student, Lily Vo, said something relatively similar, “I feel like it impacts my life because it makes my work easier, for example, when I need to look up things for school. I find it really handy because I always have my phone on me, that lets me access information i need really quick.”

There is no denying that we sometimes make unnecessary things. For example, hoverboards are pretty useless, but people spend hundreds of dollars on it because it’s fun or because it was a trend. Another example of of unnecessary technology that we have are selfie sticks. yes they do help give us a good angle for a picture, but you don’t really need it in your day to day life.

Some people believe that technology is ruining our lives. It is kind of hard to convince a lot of teenagers to put down the phone for a while because this generation was built on technology. Some people say that it makes us lazy because we just get on our device and sit or lay there basically not doing anything therefore making us unproductive. Some people also say that our devices affect our eyesight.

Life isn’t over. We still have many years to go. Who knows what kind of technology we’ll come up with in the future. We can only hope it won’t damage our world.
