By Makayla Ramsey, reporter

last Sunday at the Chicago Pizza, by the north Florida mall there was a mass shooting. a madden video game tournament that was being held there that afternoon. many gamers were there competing for a large amount of money so everyone was taking the game seriously. The gamer that won that tournament would go to another tournament in Las Vegas,  where they could win even more money.

The shooting erupted at around 2:30 pm, and fear spread through the entire area. Gunshots can be heard in recordings from the tournament on the bar’s Twitch account, which was streaming the competition, investigators were reviewing the footage as evidence.

Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office used Twitter and Facebook to warn people to stay away from the mall area. Saying “stay far away from the area. The area is not safe at this time. STAY AWAY.”

Authorities believe David Katz, 24, of Baltimore was attending the tournament and carried out the attack and reported 4 people dead and many people were transported to the hospital. Later they were informed that the shooter who opened fire died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Taylor Robertson, and Eli Clayton, were playing in the Madden tournament when the shooting occurred and are two of the people that passed away this Sunday. The 27 year old Robertson, who was from West Virginia, had career winnings of more than $80,000. Clayton’s family said “ He never even had a fistfight“. He loved football and out of all the video games he could play, he settled and mastered Madden. He made a good living gaming and he saved his earnings so he can afford to go to college to continue his education.

With the investigation still ongoing the authorities are not sure what the motive was behind the tragic event but Some witnesses told local media that Katz erupted in anger after losing an intense game at the event. Looking at Katz past hes even had some instances of violence so many people wonder why he was allowed to have guns in the first place.EA sports said  “This is a horrible situation, and our deepest sympathies go out to all involved,” the company said. “Our focus right now is on those affected, and supporting law enforcement as they continue their investigation into this crime.”
