Surfer Shreds Huge Wave

By Carly Miller

On November 8, in Nazare, Portugal, the record for surfing the biggest wave ever was broken.  This was confirmed by the World Surf League, who said its judges measured the wave to be 80 feet tall.

The surfer was Rodrigo Koxa, a 38-year-old from Sao Paolo, Brazil.  Koxa won the award for Biggest Wave at the Big Wave Awards in Santa Monica, California.  He also holds the Guinness World Record for his accomplishment.

The previous World Record for biggest wave ever surfed was held by American Garrett McNamara, with a wave of 78 feet tall at the same location in Portugal.
