Boston Marathon Continued in Harsh Conditions

This morning at 5:30 a.m., the 2018 Boston Marathon began. Cold temperatures, heavy rain, and winds created conditions that allowed for some upsets between runners.

Desiree Linden took first place in the women’s race, with a finishing time of 2:33:41. She is the first American woman to win the marathon in 33 years. Linden represented the U.S. in the 2012 London Olympic Games, and the 2016 Rio Olympics in the women’s marathon

For the men, Yuki Kawauchi of Japan came from behind to finish on top. He was determined to not let the weather conditions affect his performance. In fact, he said that these were some of the best conditions possible. He finished the race with a time of 2:15:58.

It has been five years since the 2013 bombing, and officials said there were no threats to the race, but precautions were taken in order to provide safety.
