Book Review: The Shadow Falls Series

If you’re a major bookworm searching for new books to dive into, I’ve got something in store for you. Shadow Falls is a five-book series, written by C.C. Hunter, and will have your eyes glued to the pages for hours. The main setting for the story is Shadow Falls Camp, which is where supernatural teenagers come to terms with their powers, and experience all they can do and how they can control their special abilities. Each book revolves around 16-year-old Kylie Galen.

Before Kylie was sent to Shadow Falls Camp, she was living the life of any normal teenager. She had a boyfriend and a best friend, each one always by her side. She went to school, focused on her studies, and got along with everyone around her. Although her life seemed pretty average, she knew it was also pretty special. She knew there was something different about her. She could see things no one else saw, feel things no one else felt, and thought things no one else thought. Kylie didn’t feel normal or average, ever. She felt that there was something inside of her, wanting to come out, to be embraced. Kylie just didn’t know what that something was.

Putting her senses to the side, she was overall considered the type of girl who had a lot going for her. However, she was at the wrong place at the wrong time, surrounded by the wrong people. The party she was at got busted, and it caused her mother to make a forever life-changing decision for her.

Kylie was mortified when she found out she’d be sent to Shadow Falls Camp. The camp was labeled as a place for weird, troubled teenagers who were considered “druggies” and faced countless behavioral problems. Not only that, but she would also be completely cut off from her social life, and would have to leave her old life behind. At the time, she obviously felt as if she didn’t belong at the camp, and as soon as she caught a glimpse of the people there, she guaranteed that she would be an absolute outcast.

Day by day, as Kylie would spend more time at Shadow Falls, she was beginning to realize that she did belong there, though. Throughout the series, Kylie, her friends, and the authoritative figures at the camp help her try to figure out what she is. Her brain pattern constantly shifts, showing that she may be a vampire, werewolf, witch, fae, shapeshifter, or she may be a human. You will definitely love following her around on all of her adventures, watching her follow her destiny, and finding out what supernatural she is.

In addition, when you mix in her new friendships with her vampire roommate, Della, and her other witch roommate, Miranda, you’ll feel your heart warm as you read on to see how close and how good of friends the girls become. You also can’t forget about the teenage romances. They’ll have you at the edge of your seat, constantly wondering if Kylie will choose Derek, a fae, who was there for her since she arrived at Shadow Falls, and whom she quickly caught feelings for after she’d broken up with her boyfriend. Or Lucas, a werewolf who she knew when they were kids, and eventually fell in love with when they reunited.

I highly recommend this series. Each book has a little twist to it, and you won’t be able to stop reading until the end. The books make you feel like you’re a part of the supernatural world, and as if you’re the one who is experiencing all of the challenges, the victories, the heartbreak, the drama, the friendships, and the love. Definitely take this series into consideration, you won’t regret it.
