Anna Haddock is a very talented sophomore athlete here at Greenwood. She has been playing soccer since she was little, and she continues to love the sport. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee, where she spent her childhood until she moved to Bowling Green. Anna left friends and teammates there but still remains close to them today as she continues playing for Tennessee Soccer Club (TSC). She has been with TSC for about 8 years.

She spends lots of time on the road, traveling to tournaments to compete against top teams throughout the nation, and in other parts of the world. Anna drives to Brentwood, Tennessee 3-4 times per week just for practice. This past year, Anna was chosen to play on the Region III ODP (Olympic Development Program) Team, that consisted of girls from all the southeast states. With this team, she traveled to Costa Rica. Anna said, “Costa Rica was an incredible experience for me. In addition to loving the fast-paced and competitive soccer, I enjoyed seeing and engaging in a different culture. Along the way, I made some great friends I will never forget.” Anna also got an opportunity to play in Denmark with another very talented group of girls. She said, “It felt incredible to represent Kentucky in such different environments.”

Anna is a very accomplished athlete. She was captain of the Varsity Soccer team here at Greenwood. She was selected 1st Team All-State Freshman and Sophomore year, High School Regional Player of the Year (2017), and she made the best 11 at the 2016 Youth Soccer National Championships. Anna hopes to thrive this upcoming fall, becoming a great leader as a junior on the Greenwood Soccer team. She, along with the other players, have high goals and really want to live up to those expectations.

She gives lots of credit to her coaches, which have helped her become the athlete she is today. Anna mentioned, “Coach Deni was really instrumental in my success. He pushed me in ways no one else has ever done and I really appreciate all he did. He expected nothing but the most and always knew how to get the most out of me. Through him, I realized that the game is not just about how I play, but the team as a whole.” Her other coach, named Ronnie, really taught Anna tactical skills that will help her a lot in the future. She also helped her with the college experience and made sure Anna assessed all of her options. Anna and her teammates push each other throughout many workouts and hold each other accountable in order to gain from each practice.

Recently, Anna has made a big decision regarding her future. After devoting lots of time, making many calls, and sending emails, on December 5, 2017, she verbally committed to play D1 soccer at Auburn University. The lady tigers are currently ranked 22 in the nation. Anna, along with the other Auburn commits, have reached out to each other and introduced themselves, all excited to compete together as a team. In an interview, she said, “I’ve always wanted to play in college. It has been a goal for me all along.” She hopes to continue to improve mentally and physically, pushing herself in every aspect, in order to strengthen her future program.

Anna has fulfilled one of her goals, but still has more she would like to push herself to work for. She stated, “I would like to play a lot in college, win state here at Greenwood, and eventually represent the U.S. Women’s National Team.” Anna Haddock is a true icon of hard work and talent.
