Colleen Hoover is a #1 New York Times Bestselling Author known for her New Adult Romance novels. She grew up in Sulphur Springs, Texas where she married and had three sons along with a pig named Sailor. Since her first book, Slammed came out in 2012, all of her books have been bestsellers. Her most recent novel is November 9, which came out November 10th of last year.

Reading November 9 by Colleen Hoover reminded me of listening to a Taylor Swift song: cheesy at times but ultimately addicting. The whole story revolves around one day, November 9. This is the day that Ben, an inspired author, and Fallon, a former child actor, meet for the “first time.” When Ben rescues Fallon from a terrible lunch with her father, they immediately want to know more about each other. However, because of the burn scars that cover half of her body, Fallon has no self confidence in herself and refuses to let herself fall in love until she’s 23. Her decision to move to New York to try her luck on Broadway was another obstacle that stood in the way.

After they spend the entire day together, they agree on meeting every November 9 at the same exact place for the next five years. The catch was that they couldn’t communicate at all in between. However, the plan doesn’t go exactly how they want it to because each November 9 they fall even harder for each other.

She “loved me in quotations, She kissed me in bold I TRIED TO KEEP HER in all caps She left with an ellipsis…

— Ben (Third November 9)

I’m not a big fan of romance novels but Colleen Hoover’s writing style had me hooked into the story the entire two days it took me to read it. She has a way of keeping you interested through cute moments and plot twists throughout the book. The characters are both lovable and unique, which is exactly what made the story so great. I feel that character development is the most important step in writing a book and Colleen Hoover nailed that part down. Also, the plot twists were actually surprising unlike other books. They are completely unexpected when they happen because you are too focused on the relationship between Fallon and Ben. You know something will probably come between them but you have no idea what or when it will be.

The only thing I had a problem was the instant love connection. They figured out that in reality they had only spent about two days with each other in a course of five years. This would probably never happen in real life. Although, looking back at the book, I love the characters so much that it doesn’t really matter. The story feels as though Fallon and Ben had known each other forever. Another thing was that it could  be a little bit cheesy in certain moments. The dialogue between the two characters can be cliche such as “You’ll never able to find yourself if you’re lost in someone else”; and, “You can’t leave yet. I’m not finished falling in love with you.” Despite all that, I can say that I am definitely going to read more of Colleen Hoover’s books.
