Ideas to enhance your community

Here are a few ways to get out there and help your community (while possibly adding them to college or job applications)!

Community InvolvementFor people constantly looking for ways to help out their community or the people around them, it is sometimes hard to get out there and make a better place for yourself or the future generations. Therefore, I have rounded up a few of the best ways that I know of for you to help make a better environment…

VOLUNTEERING

While this is quite obvious, a very easy way to get out there and help out the community is volunteering! There are several ways you can volunteer; FFor starters, we have the humane society. Many people who love animals volunteer at the humane society to do things such as walking dogs, laundry, or completing paperwork. If YOU love animals, this is is a great way to help out your community and the animals in it, and as I’ve already stated, looks great on job/college applications. All you need to do is visit their site (bgshelterpets.com) and “get involved.”

A second popular way to volunteer is cleaning up trash. This act takes no time and makes a big difference in the appearance of your community, plus there are already a few scholarships you can apply for just for doing this. Grab a couple of friends or family members and pick up trash around popular areas of your town, it’s that simple!

Which brings me to my last suggestion: cooking or serving food at a homeless shelter. If you are looking to do this, many churches and schools often have openings for this opportunity plus charities where you can donate food or clothing. These are great ways to gain experience and learn responsibility, and who knows, maybe you will find your future career by getting involved in these things!

EVERYDAY THINGS YOU CAN DO

If you do not have the time to volunteer, these are a few things you can begin doing in your everyday life. First things first: planting! Did you know that three to six billion trees are cut down every year and only around two billion are planted? You can help this issue just by taking a few minutes out of your day to plant, whether it be food, flowers or trees, it makes a big difference.

Another easy thing you can do to help is walking or riding a bike instead of driving (at least some of the time); this not only saves you money but saves the environment as well. A few more easy ways to get involved are recycling and buying at local businesses. Recycling both at home or in town are easy ways to help and in the long run, will help you as well. Buying at local businesses is a great way to help and support small business owners (this way there is a variety in the stores of your community)!

Now that you know of a few ways you can make a difference, I hope that you will attempt to. Our community/environment is something that affects us every day, if we can improve it, we definitely should.
