Celebrate Dr. Seuss’ Birthday and Read
March 2, 2017
On March 2, 1904 Theodor Geisel was born. However, most of us know him by his pen name Dr. Seuss. He was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and graduated from Dartmouth College. His first wife is the one who encouraged him to become a professional illustrator. He worked as a cartoonist before becoming a children’s book author, writing classic books we all loved as a child such as: “The Cat In the Hat”, “One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish”, and “Green Eggs and Ham”.
To celebrate Dr. Seuss’ birthday, the National Education Association made it National Read Across America Day. All you have to do to celebrate on this day is pick up a book and read! This day is used to motivate and encourage children across the U.S. to read more often.
Kids all over Warren County have been reading, making Cat in the Hat crafts, and logging their minutes spent reading to observe today. By noon, Warren County students had already read over 67,000 minutes. That’s a lot of time spent reading. And it’s a great way to inspire kids to find a book they love and read.
Say Happy Birthday to Dr. Seuss today by picking up a good book and sitting down for a read!
