Canon Claycomb is Coming Out on Top
February 15, 2017
Canon Claycomb is a talented golf prodigy. Throughout his life, all he wanted to do was golf. Now, Canon is living out his dreams and paving the way to bigger and better things.
Canon started golfing at the age of four. It was in that moment that he knew that this is what he wanted to do for the rest of his life. But, playing this sport isn’t easy. It requires an extreme amount of hard work, patience, and dedication.
For Canon, golf is a lifestyle. He golfs 6 days a week and any other time he can play. He also works with a personal trainer for fitness purposes along with 2 golf coaches that he sees once a month to help him train for his tournaments. He normally plays in tournaments at least 7 days a month. Also, for half of the year, he attends online school instead of public school to help him better focus on his golf career.
Over the years that Canon has been golfing, he has always been working towards his goal of becoming the best golfer in the world and to win all 4 major golf tournaments as a pro. As of right now, he is on the right track. Canon is now ranked the top 15-year-old in Kentucky and is also ranked third, out of his age group, in the nation.
Some of his major accomplishments include, winning the teen golf championships last year, coming second at the state championship as an individual and a team, and becoming the number one ranked 15-year-old golfer in the country.
One of the most challenging things that Canon has had to face is moving and traveling away from his friends and family. As of right now Canon lives in Bowling Green, Kentucky for the first half of the year. Then for the second half of the year, he moves down to Florida where he doesn’t play for a specific team but there is still a greater amount of golfing opportunities. He says that is hard to adjust to living to two different lifestyles and trying to keep up with his friends in Kentucky while hanging out with his friends and family down there. On the other side things, he says that there are also many benefits to living in two different places. He gets to meet double the people, can make lifetime friends in two states that he will be connected with forever, and last, he says, “ I get to live out my dream of playing golf at the next level.”
But he doesn’t stop at Florida. He has also traveled to London, Paris and Scotland for golf.
Even though he has traveled around the world and back, he would never trade his home of Bowling Green, Kentucky for anything. After all this is where it all started. Canon has played for the Greenwood High School’s golf team since 4th grade! When asked about his commitment and love for this team he says, “ I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”
