Homecoming at Greenwood
January 12, 2017
Whether you’re a basketball fan, someone with a lot of school spirit, or simply just want to see your friends prance the gym floor in their best attire, homecoming is a time that brings us all together. For one night, past, present, and future Gators are all in one place watching our school succeed, and Friday night, that is exactly what we will do.
Although it will be Friday the 13th, we don’t expect any paranormal activity to take place on the court. The opponents are the Raiders, and although they have had a solid season, we don’t doubt the Gators will pull out a win. The Warren East Boys basketball team have won nine of their games and lost three. The Lady Raiders have won three games and lost eight.
Coach Wills has a game plan for Friday night and some key information the boys will have to remember on the court. He discussed offensive rebounds (a rebound secured by a offensive player after a teammate has missed a shot) and how obtaining these would be crucial to beating the Raiders. Coach Wills also mentioned Trequon Patterson (number 3 on Warren East) who is averaging 27 points per game. If our players can keep him from scoring, we should be in great shape. Coach Wills is very confident in a victory for the Gators.
Basketball will not be the only event taking place Friday night. We all have had the chance to be a part of the selection process for our homecoming court. As students we had the ability to nominate and then later vote for our peers. Well the votes are in and we have all chosen people who we feel represent our class in a positive light. Our court this year will be:

I asked sophomore representative Cruz McClure about how he felt being selected and his reply was, “It was an honor and I was thrilled.” You can see Cruz and many others Friday night. We will also figure out who takes home King and Queen Friday night, so be sure to attend. The ceremony will be between the boys and girls game. The Lady Gators tip-off will be at six. Go Gators.
Story Update:
Both the Gators and Lady Gators took home the victory over Warren East Friday night. The girls dominated the court and finished the game with a score of 75-40. The guys also had a great game defeating East 78-50.
