Yarny explores in ‘Unravel.’

This year is only a few months old and already has brought many great games to the gaming community. From adventure to action, there is a game out there for everyone’s tastes. In January alone, ten games were released. For the month of February, 24 games were released.

Here are some of the highlights from the year in video games (so far):

Pokémon: Rumble World released January 22 for Nintendo 3DS

This game allows for the player to explore a kingdom as their custom Mii character, searching for a capturing toy Pokémon. They can even evolve when the player trains them by fighting other Pokémon. There are 18 areas to explore with over 80 stages. There are a variety of environments that can be explored with a hot air balloon to capture Pokémon.

Unravel released February 9 for the Ps4, Xbox One, and PC

This game follows the story of an adorable character called Yarny who is coincidentally made of Yarn. Yarny seems to be embarking on a larger-than-life story through the captivating landscape of Northern Scandinavia. In this game, you use the thread that Yarny has to get through many of the puzzle-based levels. Throughout the story, you will it see it develop into a heart-felt journey as Yarny tries to reunite a family’s lost loved ones.         

Far Cry Primal released March 1 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC

The game takes place thousands of years before the previous Far Cry games. You’re thrown into the primitive past where technology doesn’t exist, and kill or be killed was the known rule of the land. You are a primitive human, a native tribe man, who among having to face dangerous prehistoric predators, you also must save tribe mates from other rival tribes. Weapons can’t be purchased and must be crafted instead. There are no guns, and it’s all primitive from there.

Dark Souls 3 released April 12 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC

The Dark Souls sequel continues from the first two games of the player being an accursed undead, who has to quest to gain his humanity back. At the same time, he is saving the world from dark beings that want to destroy the world. The player can customize their character however they desire. They can also choose to put their character into many different classes or begin with nothing but undergarments. Yes you heard that right, you can run around in underwear fighting the undead but it is ill-advised. As you and many will find out that you may die “many” times in the gameplay. But hey, that’s what the game was made to do.

Overwatch released May 24 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC

Overwatch is a team-based shooter brought to you by Blizzard. In this game you have a tremendously large variety of characters and classes to choose from. The majority of the whole game is based on teamwork. Whether you’re defending your teammates or giving them a major damage boost, all the classes play a role in this game.
