Five Gators named Scholar of the Week and counting

In order to recognize exceptional students throughout the Warren County area, WBKO and WKU’s Honors College have teamed up to create the Scholar of the Week awards. Each week, WBKO features two outstanding high school students on their show and acknowledges their significant accomplishments. As of March, the following five Greenwood students have appeared and been recognized:

Adan Deeb

October 2015

Adan is a senior at Greenwood. Her academic achievements include having a 3.9 GPA and a score of 30 on the ACT. She also has a wide range of extracurricular activities, as she does Ballet, Pointe, and Jazz dance and she volunteers at the Hardin Planetarium at WKU. She has demonstrated leadership skills by serving as the President of Greenwood’s Science club and being named a Kentucky Governor’s Scholar. One day, she hopes to get a degree in pharmaceutical research with a focus on medicine.

Christine DiMeo

January 2016

Christine is also a senior. She has a 3.9 GPA and a 32 ACT score. She enjoys script writing, so she hopes to one day be a screenwriter and has written a play that was produced by Greenwood’s drama club called “Murder on Drop-Dead Drive”. She is also passionate about animals and volunteers regularly at the Humane Society. Her career plans are to study veterinary medicine in the hopes of becoming a small-animal veterinarian.

Ashley Spiller

February 2016

Ashley is a junior at Greenwood, and she has scored a 32 ACT and holds a 4.0 GPA. She is an active athlete, having been recognized for Academic All-State in Swimming and Cross Country, as well as being a member of USA swimming team and RACE Aquatics. Ashley also takes time to volunteer for Volunteers of America-Action Team.

Abbigayle Willgruber

February 2016

Abbi is a senior whose academics include a 3.9 GPA and an ACT score of 31. She is involved in a wide variety of extracurricular activities, including the National Honor Society,  the Lady Gator Softball team, and the Trap Shooting Team. She has also shown herself to be a leader by serving as President of Greenwood FFA and Secretary for the Science Club.

Elizabeth Guthrie

March 2016

Elizabeth is a senior with a 3.98 GPA and a 33 on the ACT. She is an active leader in the school body, and she has served as Vice President of the Spanish Club, Captain of the Speech Team, and Service Project Coordinator for National Honor Society. She has interests in Journalism and Anthropology, and hopes one day to travel the world as a journalist for National Geographic.

 

Congratulations to all five of these students! There are Greenwood students who are yet to be announced as WBKO Scholars, and we look forward to hearing their names as well.
