Humane Society Valentines Day Adoption Drive

Humane Society Valentine’s Day Adoption Drive

Week of 2/15/16

This Valentine’s weekend, the BGWC Humane Society hosted an adoption drive to encourage people to adopt their dogs and cats.

The Valentine’s Adoption Drive is an annual event that is usually held at the Pet Smart on Gary Farms Boulevard, but for the first time ever, this year’s event took place in dual locations: at the Pet Smart and the new Petco that opened up on Campbell Lane last year. At the event, lines of cages were set up at the entrance to each of the stores, so that customers could walk in and immediately see the adoptable animals. Prospective adopters could play with the animals, walk them around the store, and even adopt them right from the location.

The drive took place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and even though the weather was cold and snowy, it still received a great turnout. As far as dogs go, 20 dogs were brought out for people to meet, and of those 15 were adopted on site. And even a few of the 5 left over were noticed by families at the event and were adopted shortly after it ended.

All in all, the drive was a win for everybody. To a shelter animal, there is no better way to spend Valentine’s Day than with a new family in a warm, happy home, and this year over 15 dogs got that opportunity.
