Girls Weightlifting Class: Weights and the Occasional Yoga
By: Rylee Scheer
Have you ever wondered what is going on in the girls weightlifting class? Some of the students in the class were asked about their thoughts in the class. Hopefully even more girls might consider taking this class next year to get strong.
The first student is Brooklyn Johnson, who plays
soccer and basketball and is a freshman. Johnson said that
one of her favorite memories in the class so far was
when they played flag football for the entire class period.
A goal that Johnson has is to build muscle to improve in her sports activities. According to Johnson, she has really been pushed in the class by Coach Williams, who tells the girls to work hard everyday. Johnson later stated that her favorite thing about weightlifting class is “being able to talk and see my friends everyday.” To add onto that, she said it is very hard for her to work out whenever she’s tired, but she pushes through.
The second student is Lila Whittinghill, who plays volleyball and is a sophomore. First off, she said that she enjoys the conversations she has with others while they stretch on the football field. Whittinghill’s goal for the Girls Weightlifting class is to get even stronger than she already is. She also said that Coach Williams has really pushed her in the class, and helps her do the best she can. The best thing about the class according to Whittinghill is that “Everyone has the same goal and works super hard.” On the other hand, she said it is hard to stay consistent in working out everyday, even when she is tired. Whittinghill also said that the class is helping her make more friends that also play various sports.
The third and last person is Aaliyah Sejminovic, who also plays soccer and basketball and is a sophomore. Sejminovic said that her biggest goal in the class is to get stronger and conditioned for her sports. She also said that her friends have really motivated her to work hard while lifting. Sejminovic added that the best thing about the Girls Weightlifting Class is “the togetherness, and overall teamwork from all the girls.” She said that running is probably her least favorite part of the class. Sejminovic also said that the main goal of the class is to condition and get stronger for sports.
Girls from all grades and sports at Greenwood High School are in this class, so there’s plenty of people to get to know while working out! During the class, be prepared to be pushed by Coach Williams as the weights get heavier. The Girls Weightlifting Class is a very fun and passionate class, but is also very beneficial.
