Nadia Jones, GHS Student council’s President and Senior, has been in the student council since she was a freshman. She explains Student Council as a club that “takes on the role of planning and organizing events such as Prom, Formal, Homecoming, Senior Sunrise, Gator Fest, Club Rush, and more.” She also explains that “Freshman are typically who we go for at the beginning of the year but towards the end of the year the class will vote for who they want to be on the student council.” In May, they have their own Presidential Election where their grade votes for the president and the vice president of the student council. Nadia points out that they accept all varieties of people. “We accept band kids, theater kids, jocks, ect.” as well as “It is a community club for everyone to feel connected and united.” She says. Nadia also says “Some perks of being on student council is that you get to be more involved with the student body, it looks good on resumes, and you get to organize fun events for Greenwood High School.”
Shanna Clerjuste, Junior, added to that by saying “Everyone’s ideas are welcome and there is always room for a collaboration of ideas because everyone contributes.” Shanna joined the student council last year when she moved to Greenwood High School as well as she is so incredibly kind and a great leader. She specifies how everyone on the student council gets into dances for free and one Greenwood High School game. Lastly, she spoke about how student council is a great way to make new friends and it helps you learn about leadership.
Anna Joe Edmunds is a beautiful and kind-hearted person who joined the student council as a freshman. She says that they decide who joins the student council by “reading off the two most important questions off the application and seeing whose responses we like better to the question, then we interview them a second time after they join.” Lastly, when she was asked what her favorite part about student council was, without hesitation, she said “ My favorite part is that we get to help other clubs as much as possible.”
All in all, Student Council is a great club for you to join if you are looking for an opportunity for leadership.
