Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be on the girls soccer team for Greenwood High School? Three freshmen girls from the team were asked about their experience on the GHS girls soccer team. These players provide insights that may help prospective players make informed decisions.
The first player is Clara Willis, whose position is left back. She said that the season has been going great even though they haven’t gotten too many wins. Willis also said that the hardest thing for her in the sport so far is dealing with certain people who like to have the ball with them at all times. Finally, “Willis emphasized the supportive nature of the coaches, stating, “Coaches are supportive, the teams have a great work ethic, and it’s just overall fun to play.”
The next soccer player is Aubrey Zuccarell, and her position is forward, wing and attacking midfield. Zuccarell said that the hardest part in soccer is trying to have a good game, while others aren’t showing the best sportsmanship. One thing she really likes about the soccer team is that they pray before every game, which is very encouraging to the players. Zuccarell also said one of her favorite memories in soccer was when: “I was about seven and I went to a GHS soccer camp. That was where I met one of my teammates that I play with to this day.” She said: “It’s just cool to grow up with fellow teammates throughout the years.”
The last girl is Kensley Vaughn, and she plays midfield. Vaughn also said that the hardest thing in soccer is: “Trying to communicate with others who might be difficult to deal with.” According to Vaughn, she said that the soccer team does some special events during the season like fundraisers, sponsorships, etc. She also said that anyone can try out for soccer. She said: “Just the other day, a girl tried out for the team, even though we’re already into the season.”
Overall, the soccer team is such a good environment to be in and has a competitive spirit when they play. Teamwork and perseverance is very big for all the soccer girls. The freshmen girls soccer team works very hard to perform well, and they deserve all of our support.
