Westbrook Farms is a local family business/farm in Alvaton Kentucky. It is a great place to take a family trip or just to go have a good time!  There are plenty of activities to do when you visit such as the petting zoo, buggy rides, hay rides, farm visits, etc. There is also a very nice barn venue available to rent out for weddings or other events. 

Today, we had the pleasure of interviewing Emma Emberton. She is a freshman at Greenwood High School (GHS) and her family is the owners of Westbrook farms. The farm has been in her family since 1923. The whole family works together and all have many roles. Emma helps out with hayrides during the events and feeds all the animals daily. The farm has many animals including horses, camels, donkeys, cows, pigs, yaks, sheep, and longhorns. One of the things they do with the animals is a petting zoo. This is open to the public with appointments scheduled. You and your family can come and visit all of the animals that the farm has to offer. 

The Westbrooks also do different seasonal activities. They host a fall extravaganza, Christmas festivals, and they also sell mums in the spring and fall. Out of these, the fall extravaganza is the most popular. Emma says, “on our fall extravaganza there are over a couple thousand people.” There are vendors set up all around to shop as well as multiple food trucks. You can also visit the petting zoo during this. The Christmas festival is also a very popular event which people come to. There is a Christmas nativity scene set up with all of their animals. 

  There are so many activities that you can do at the event such as a petting zoo, face painting, scavenger hunt games, hay rides, and even activities for the adults. The adults can enter a raffle to win a basket full of different items that they will love. There is also a barn available to rent to the public for different events. A freshman at GHS, Emorie Osborne said, “Two years ago my family rented out Westbrook’s barn to have a formal.” While it has also been used for other parties, graduations, ceremonies, weddings, etc. All in all,  Westbrook Farms is an excellent place for people of all ages to visit and have a great time!
