By Eduardo Urvina

What’s going on?

All over Australia there have been reports of strawberries having needles and pins shoved in them, this has cause many people to mostly parents and kids to panic and not want to purchase anything to do with strawberry’s. This has caused the Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison and the Home Affairs Minister Peter Dutton to speak out about this and what’s to happen.

What are the police doing?

Law Enforcement are looking into a case were a child had admitted to pulling a “prank” by stuffing needles and pins into strawberries himself, they also stated that if caught doing that it would be considered as food tampering and that could land the offender 10 to 15 years in prison. They are also checking strawberries from Australian soil as well strawberries from overseas.

What are the effects of this?

Some of the effects of this strawberry panic is that many stores are forced to recall and take down their supply of strawberries then replace them with the clean ones. Another effect is that farmers are loosing clients because people don’t feel safe buying which is causing some farms to loose money and farmers and their family’s fear loosing it all.

Is it just strawberries?

Not much is know right now, but there have been reports of people finding needles in mango’s. So as of right now the ones that people know have needles in them are strawberries, but could mango’s be next?
