August 24, 2018
With Halloween coming up, people need to know what’s the best scary movies to watch to feel the October vibes, the spooky scary Halloween chills. Here in Bowling Green we even have a scary movie reference of our own. Halloween Director John Carpenter was raised here in Bowling Green and referenced Smiths Grove in his movie.
Number 5 – Sinister
Sinister is a horror movie based on a writer named Ellison and his wife and their two children. Ellison moves into a house where a family was hung except for one, the families little girl. Ellison finds films in his attic of other families being murdered but always one child being left alive but unfound.
Sinister has a 68% on Rotten Tomatoes. It has a rating of 4.5/5 on Horror Freak News and a 6.8/10 on IMDb.
The cast includes Ethan Hawke, who plays Ellison, the father and writer. Juliet Rylance plays Tracy, Ellison’s wife. Clare Foley and Michael Hall D’Addario play Ashley and Trevor, Ellison’s son and daughter.
I love this movie because of the plot, you think something and then there is a huge plot twist at the end. It makes you want to watch the movie till the end. However, the second movie in the series isn’t as good in my opinion.
Number 4 – The Conjuring
The Conjuring is a horror movie based on a family moving into a new home that was owned by a witch who hung herself and cursed others who live on her land. She haunts the home until the family can’t take enough and call demons experts Ed and Lorraine Warren. They setup but one day while the mother of the family is sleeping the demon possesses her. The Warrens have to save the family before it is too late.
The Conjuring has a 86% on Rotten Tomatoes. It has a 7.5/10 on IMDb and it has a 4 / 5 on Common Sense Media.
The cast includes of Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson who play Lorraine and Ed Warren. The cast also includes the Perron family which includes Lili Taylor who plays Carolyn Perron the mom, Ron livingston who plays Roger Perron the father and their five daughters, Shanley Caswell who plays Andrea, Haley McFarland who plays Nancy, Joey King who plays Christine, Mackenzie Foy who plays Cindy, and Kyla Deaver who plays April.
I enjoy watching The Conjuring because of the creepy realistic feeling to it. You watch it and you get chills because it’s so realistic that you feel like something like that could happen if you and your family moved into a home you knew nothing about, however though, I don’t recommend watching this movie once and then rewatching it. I’ve watched it a few times now and everytime I rewatch it the worse it gets.
Number 3 – Nightmare on Elm Street
Wes Craven’s Nightmare on Elm Street is a movie about a monster named Freddy Krueger who haunts and kills teens in their dreams. Krueger was killed and by the parents of the kids he murdered after they burned him in a fire once they found out he was a pedophile and a child molester. He kills these kids in their dreams and sometimes they don’t even know they’re asleep. The brutal ways he kills the teens are what drags people into the movie series.
Nightmare on Elm Street has a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, it has a rating of 3 / 5 on Common Sense Media and it has a rating of 7.5/10 on IMDb.
The Cast includes of Robert Englund who plays Freddy Krueger, Johnny Depp who plays Glen Lantz, Heather LangenKamp who plays the main character Nancy Thompson.
I feel like everyone needs to watch this movie once before they die just so they can see how bad nightmares really are. This is a brilliant idea to a movie I just really wish the rest of the film series was as good as the first one. It’s still one of my favorite horror movies and it’s a classic.
Number 2 – The Shining
The Shining is a horror movie where a father and his family takes care of a hotel during a winter storm. The father becomes crazy after spending so much time in the hotel with no one but his family. He starts seeing people and unrevealing dark secrets about the hotel causing him to go insane, trying to kill his family. This movie is known for Redrum which is what Danny his son says a lot after having visions, if you look at Redrum backwards it means Murder. Another scene this movie is known for is the scene where the father uses his axe against the bathroom door peaks in and yells “Here’s Johnny”
The shining has some of the highest rating on this list with a 86% from Rotten Tomatoes, a 8.4/10 on IMDb films, and a 3 / 5 from Common Sense Media.
Jack Nicholson a legendary actor plays the father Jack Torrance. Shelley Duvall plays Wendy Torrance the wife of Jack. And Danny Lloyd plays Danny Torrance, Jack and Wendy’s young son.
The Shining is a classic movie, it’s good to watch with others and gives off a creepy vibe throughout the whole movie, however though near the end of the movie it starts to get boring and some scenes make me wonder why they’re even in the movie. It’s still a wonderful classic horror movie.
Number 1 Halloween
Halloween is a slasher film about a boy who slaughtered his sister with a knife and then is sent to a mental facility. He breaks out of the facility on a court transfer 15 years later. He then returns to his old home in Haddonfield Illinois where he hunts down more people.
Halloween has okay reviews with a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, a 3 / 5 on Common Sense Media, and a 7.9/10 on IMDb
The cast includes of Jamie Lee Curtis who plays Laurie Strode, Donald Pleasence who plays Samuel Loomis, and Nick Castle and Tony Moran played Michael Myers.
This is my favorite scary movie of all time, not only is it a little bit of a slasher but it is genuinely scary and terrifying. It has an amazing plot and the cast is amazing, you’re at the edge of your seat the whole movie.
