How to Keep Up With Your Goals

By Hailey Welson, Reporter

Setting goals for oneself can induce the desire to become better and encourage growth in many ways. Whether it be a large or small goal, long-term or short-term, or even time-consuming or very quick, they tend to provide people with a motive to get something done. But sticking to them may prove hard, especially when the goal may seem unrealistic or too much. Here are a few ways to help you become motivated in order to accomplish those goals you want to achieve.

Think about what you really want

Goals are meant to help you envision something that you want to achieve. They are your own, defined by what YOU want. First of all, are the goals you’re imagining your very own? Or are they someone else’s vision of what they want you to do or become? It’s not something you believe in, it’s what they do. Pushing yourself to put effort into a thing that doesn’t inspire you to do better is pointless. It’s like walking on an inclined treadmill–it’s overly demanding. Make sure the goals that you set for yourself are your own.

Break them down

Most people stop trying to reach a goal because they find it too hard or demanding to accomplish. Realizing that there are simpler steps in reaching a goal can help. Say that you wanted to get in better shape. Instead of trying to do so much at once, splitting it up into simple, small steps and then gradually increasing difficulty. As time goes along, it can increase the probability of accomplishing the goal. Understanding how you work is also significant to your progress! You will do better when you get to know your boundaries.

Treat yourself

When you do achieve a simple goal, or part of a longer one, rewarding yourself is one more step toward progress! Taking a little time to give back is a way to keep up your stride of work and give you a sense of accomplishment and a burst of enthusiasm. Whether it be something extravagant or simple, it keeps you motivated and on the right track!

All it takes is motivation to do what you want to do! Now it’s up to you to push yourself! It may prove to be hard, but hopefully, this article can help you out. Good luck!
