Track and Field Celebrates Former Thrower
On Thursday, April 26, Greenwood Track and Field will be hosting the Madison Duncan Track Meet in honor of the former Gator. The meet will start at 5:30 pm.
In middle school, Madison competed in the shot put for Drakes Creek Middle School. During eighth grade, however, she was diagnosed with Transverse Myelitis, a disease that paralyzed her from the waist down.
Her junior year, she came back to Track and Field to compete in the adapted shot put. She did this for the remainder of her high school career and set the state record for adapted shot put two years in a row.
Coach Garrett decided to host a meet in her name, and all the money will go to help with her therapy. The first meet was held in 2016, and it was just a meet for shot put and discus. In 2017, the meet grew to include all events. This year it will be a full-scale track meet with all local schools in attendance. Madison is coming back to Greenwood for the meet to thank everyone for coming, and to cheer on the Gators.
