Avicii’s Death Confirmed as Apparent Suicide

By Angelina Addams

Earlier this week, on April 20, it was reported that Swedish dance music producer and DJ Tim Bergling, better known by his stage name Avicii, passed away at age 28. He had been found in his hotel room in Moscat, Oman, where he had been vacationing.

Two autopsy reports confirmed that there was no “criminal suspicion” in relation to his death. It has also been confirmed that his death was suicide.

In 2016, Avicii took a break from touring due to frequent health complications and hospitalizations. Avicii suffered from acute pancreatitis, caused by heavy drinking. He was hospitalized twice for issues related to pancreatitis, and stopped drinking a year later.

However, his health complications only got worse. In 2014, Avicii was hospitalized to get his appendix and gallbladder removed. He attempted to continue touring, but after two years of cancelling several performances at a time, he announced in 2016 that he would retire from touring.

His family released a statement earlier today regarding his cause of death. The statement is as followed [it has been translated from Swedish]…

“Our beloved Tim was a seeker, a fragile artistic soul searching for answers to existential questions.

An over-achieving perfectionist who travelled and worked hard at a pace that led to extreme stress.

When he stopped touring, he wanted to find a balance in life to be happy and be able to do what he loved most – music.

He really struggled with thoughts about Meaning, Life, Happiness.

He could not go on any longer.

He wanted to find peace.

Tim was not made for the business machine he found himself in; he was a sensitive guy who loved his fans but shunned the spotlight.

Tim, you will forever be loved and sadly missed.

The person you were and your music will keep your memory alive. We love you,

Your family”
