Virginia Surprises Louisville

By Carly Miller

On Thursday, March 1, the Louisville Cardinals hosted the number one Virginia Cavaliers in a nail-biting thriller. Louisville was also celebrating their senior night; it would be Quentin Snider and Anas Mahmoud’s last game at the YUM Center.

At the end of the first half, the Cardinals had a surprising lead over the number one team, 32-26.  It seemed as if the Cardinals were going to be able to pull out a win in honor of their seniors.

Louisville was able to keep their lead the whole game, with the score being tied only once.  To everyone in the crowd, the game was over.  Louisville had pulled out an amazing win against the Cavaliers.

The score was 66-64, Louisville was inbounding the ball.  Deng Adel went to throw it to his teammate, but he ran on the baseline during a dead ball possession.  This gave the ball back to the Cavaliers.  They throw it to De’Andre Hunter, a freshman, who was standing just behind the three-point line.  He throws it up, and it goes in.  The Cavaliers have won the game.

The Cavaliers play again on March 3, on their home court, against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.  Louisville will play again on March 3 taking on N.C. State Wolfpack at the PNC Arena.
