Track and Field Seniors Recognized on Senior Night

As the school year and this track season comes to an end, the seniors are being celebrated. May 2 was senior night for the track and field teams of Warren County.

There are 18 senior members of the Greenwood track team and they will soon be moving on to bigger and better things. At the city-county meet on Tuesday night they announced the seniors high school track accomplishments and their future plans.

Here’s a look at the 2017 Track and Field seniors:

 

A.J. Anthony has run for two years as a hurdler and a jumper. He will be attending Western in the fall and will be majoring in biology.

Lydia Armstrong has run for six years as a sprinter and hurdler. She will be attending the University of Kentucky Honors College in the fall and will be majoring in Human Health Sciences.

Desmond Barnett has run track for six years as a distance, mid-distance and sprinter. He will be attending Western in the fall and plans to major in business. After completing his undergraduate degree he plans to receive his MBA from the University of Louisville.

Saul Barrera has run track for three years as a distance and mid-distance runner. He will be attending Union College and will be playing lacrosse.

Jonathan Crothers has run for four years as a distance, mid-distance, and sprinter. He will be attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, and plans on majoring in bioengineering.  

Allison Davis has run for six years as a distance, mid-distance, hurdler, and jumper. She will be attending Western’s Honors College in the fall and will be majoring in biology.

Matthew Dishmon has thrown shot put for one year. He will be attending Kentucky Christian University where he plans to continue his football career.

Madison Duncan has thrown shot put for three years. She is the current region and state champion for adapted shot put. She holds the state record with a throw of 13 feet 2.75 inches. She also holds the school record with a throw of 14 feet 11 inches. Madison plans to dual enroll in SKYCTC and WKU this fall.

Carlos Gomez has thrown shot put and discuss for one year. He will be attending Western’s Honors College and plans to major in electrical engineering.

Keeghan Harrell has run for two years as a sprinter. He will enlist in the National Guard through Western. He plans to major in biology and minor in military sciences. His goal is to be commissioned as an Army officer through ROTC upon graduation.

Rose Mary Jackson has run track for four years as a sprinter and high jumper. She will be attending Lindsey Wilson College in the fall where she plans to continue her basketball and track career. She will be majoring in psycho-physiology.

Gannon Minton has run for five years as a sprinter. He will be attending Western in the fall.

Kareem Mitchell has been running track for five years as a sprinter and mid-distance runner.

Elizabeth Peterson has thrown shot put and discuss for one year. She will be attending Western’s Honors College and will be majoring in mechanical engineering.

Austin Walden has run for one year as a distance runner.

Taylor Walsh has thrown discuss for one year for the track and field team. She will be attending the University of Kentucky and plans to major in pre-law.

Byron Wood has thrown shot put and discuss for five years. He will be starting employment with Wendy’s in the maintenance department in the fall, and plans to attend SKYCTC the following fall.

Farley Wood has run for four years as a sprinter. She will be attending Florida College in the fall.

The track coach, Dave Garrett, says that these seniors will be greatly missed. “This group of individuals are courageous, dedicated, focused and have been committed to paying the extraordinary price to perform at the maximum level and by so doing advancing not only themselves but this program! That’s what I’m going to miss most.”
