Artie

Week of 5/11/15

May 11, 2015

artie2Artie, my family’s dog, turned 8 years old this past Saturday, May 9th.

Artie is a Pembroke Welsh Corgi from a well-known breeder in New York, where my family used to live. Like most Corgis, he has a medium-sized body but little legs, traits they were specifically bred to have in order to avoid being kicked by cows. Corgis are also prone to being on the pudgy side, and Artie is no exception. Much to his dismay (but everyone else’s enjoyment), he makes a great pillow and foot warmer for this reason.

However, don’t let the fact that he’s a bit on in years trick you into thinking he’s not active. When he’s not in the midst of a passionate affair with food, he’s off playing, licking the floor, or “defending” our house from the vicious beasts that try to invade it (mainly squirrels and fluffy bunnies). He does have a few pet peeves that really freak him out, specifically trashcans, bathtubs, and his greatest nemesis: the oven. Greater than these fears, though, is his immense love for food. He doesn’t really care what kind of food, as long as it’s not a vegetable.

Even after eight years, Artie is still an endless source of fun, a wonderful snuggle buddy, and an extremely loyal friend who will stay by your side no matter what.

Especially if you have food.
