Making Goals for a Better Life

By Madison Duncan, Writer/Editor

It only takes a group of people to change the world and recently a group of World Leaders, Celebrities, and Youtubers have banded together to set and support different goals for the world. The Global Goals team wants to accomplish three of seventeen set goals in the next 15 years. Each member selects three of the seventeen goals to complete.

On September 25th, 2015 the United Nations formally adopted the 17 goals to be completed. The basis of each goal is what they want to accomplish by the end date. For example: for Zero Hunger they want to make sure everyone in the world has access to good, healthy food sources all year around. The World Leaders want to accomplish these goals by 2030 but not end there, they want to continue to work on these and to keep the idea going through their lifetimes and beyond.

The goals include anything from: stopping world hunger to gender equality to life below land. For every goal you support you can have a printed poster to show others that they can help along with it. With specific targets for every goal the leaders want you to get involved and inform to help these goals move along. To get the word out the Leaders want you to tell everyone you possibly know about it. They have posters that you print off and take your “Global Goals selfie” with as well as perform a Dizzy Goals challenge where you take two soccer balls and spin with one and run and try to shoot a goal with the other. The major premise of the whole campaign is that they are relying on everyone to get the word out there and into the public eye.

Many different celebrities are in on the campaign including: Malala, John Legend, Tanya Burr, Kristen Bell, Jamie Oliver, Matt Damon,  Mindy Kaling, Stephen Hawking, Pink, and Tom Hiddleston.  I myself supported number five, gender equality which is trying to eliminate all forms of discrimination, violence in public, and all harmful practices as well as allowing women to slowly become more equal with the common men. But you can support more than one, you can support however many goals you would like to help them complete. Everyone can help out to help sustain and accomplish these goals before their set date.
