This is a look at the best soccer players from each state, including both men and women. These will be a mix of past and present players.

Alabama – Mia Hamm

Mia Hamm was born in Selma, Alabama and is with out a doubt the best player from Alabama. Mia has retired from soccer, but scored 103 goals for the University Of North Carolina, 25 goals for Washington Freedom, and 158 for the U.S Women’s National Team. Most think that Mia Hamm is the best female soccer player.

Alaska – Marisa Abegg

Alaska doesn’t have a ton of competition, but they do have defender, Marisa Abegg. She played for Stanford in college and played pro for FC Gold Pride, Washington Freedom, D.C United Women, Gulf Coast Texans, and Washington Spirit.

Arizona – Brad Evans

Brad Evans was born in Phoenix, Arizona and is a mid fielder for Swope Park Ranger. Brad started his career with Columbus Crew, then, Seattle Sounders, Sporting Kansas City, and is on lone to Swope Park Rangers. Brad has a total of 32 goals in his club career.

Arkansas – Parker Maher

There is not any competition for Parker Maher, the defender from Fort Smith, Arkansas. The defender played with USL’s Saint Louis FC from 2015-2016 and then signed with Swope Park Rangers, which he has been with since.

California – Landon Donovan 

California has a lot of competition in soccer, but Landon Donovan was an easy choice. Landon Donovan is the best player in MLS and has a total of 187 goals. Landon has played for Bayern Leverkusen, San Jose Earthquakes, LA Galaxy, Bayern Munich, and Leon.

Colorado – Todd Dunivant 

Todd Dunivant was born in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, and was a defender in the MLS. He played for San Jose Earthquakes, LA Galaxy, New York Red Bulls, and Toronto FC. Todd scored a total of 7 goals in his club career.

Connecticut – Steve Potts

Steve Potts is a defender who was born in Hartford, Connecticut. Steve Potts spent almost his entire career with West Ham United, but played one years with Dagenham at the end of his carrer. Steve was with West Ham for a total of 17 years and had one goal.

Delaware – Anthony Fontana 

There weren’t many choices when it came to Delaware, but I chose Anthony Fontana. Anthony was born in Newark, Delaware and is a midfielder, who plays with Bethlehem Steel FC on loan from Philadelphia Union. He is 19 years old and has 2 goals.

Florida – Eddie Johnson

Eddie Johnson is a striker from Bunnell, Florida. He played for FC Dallas, Kansas City Wizards, Fulham,  Cardiff City, Aris, Preston, Seattle Sounders, and DC United. He has had a total of 90 goals in his club goal.

Georgia – Sean Johnson

Sean Johnson is a goalkeeper from Lilburn, Georgia. He plays in the MLS and played for, Atlanta Blackhawks, Chicago Fire, and now he plays for New York City FC as their starting goalkeeper and has had 5 appearances for USMNT.

Hawaii – Brian Ching 

There isn’t much competition for the state Hawaii, but none is needed. Brian was born in Hale’iwa, Hawaii and has played for LA Galaxy, Seattle Sounders, San Jose Earthquakes, and Houston Dynamo. Brian has a total of 112 goals in his club career.

Idaho – None

Idaho currently has no soccer players playing at a top level.

Illinois – Brad Guzan 

Brad Guzan is a goalkeeper from Evergreen Park, Illinois. He has played for Chivas USA, Aston Villa, Hull City, Middlesbrough, and Atlanta United. He has had 59 appearances for the US men’s national team.

Indiana – DaMarcus Beasley 

DaMarcus Beasley is a left winger from Fort Wayne, Indiana. Beasley has played for, LA Galaxy, Chicago Fire, PSV, Manchester City, Rangers, Hannover 96, Puebla, and Houston Dynamo. He has had a total of 59 goals and has 126 appearances for the USMNT.

Iowa – Kyle Zobeck

Kyle Zobeck is a goalkeeper from Coralville, Iowa. He has played for, Des Moines Menace, FC Dallas, New York Cosmo, and is now back with FC Dallas and is starting for them. He has not yet played for the USMNT though.

Kansas – Matt Besler

Matt Besler is a defender from Overland Park, Kansas. He has played for Sporting Kansas City his whole career, but has been very good on the team. Matt has been to the MLS All-Star game multiple times and has a total of 3 goals and and has a goal of the USMNT.
Kentucky – Andrew Farrell 

Andrew Farrell is a defender from Louisville, Kentucky. He has played fro Bradenton Academics, River City Rovers, and now the New England Revolution. He has a total of 2 goals for the Revolution and has been with the club since 2013.

Louisiana – Patrick Mullins 

Patrick Mullins is a Forward from New Orleans, Louisiana. Patrick has played for, Baton Rouge Capitals, New Orleans Jesters, New England Revolution, New York City FC, DC United, and now plays for Columbus Crew. He has a total of 38 goals in his club career.

Maine – Roger Levesque

There weren’t many pick for Maine, but I went with Roger Levesque, who is a midfielder from Portland Maine. He has played for, San Jose Earthquakes, Seattle Sounders, and Seattle Sounders FC, of the MLS. He has 40 goals in his career.

Maryland – Kyle Beckerman 

Kyle Beckerman is a Midfielder from Crofton, Maryland. He has played for, Miami Fusion, Colorado Rapids, Real Salt Lake and has a total of 42 goals in his career and is captain for Real Salt Lake.

Massachusetts – Mike Burns 

Mike Burns is a defender from Marlborough, Massachusetts. Mike played for, New England Revolution, San Jose Earthquakes, and Kansas City Wizards and has had 3 total goals.

Michigan – Justin Meram 

Justin Meram is a Winger from Shelby Carter Towship, Michigan. Justin played for Sporting Arizona FC, Columbus Crew, Orlando City, and back with Columbus. He has a total of 45 goals in his club career.

Minnesota – Ethan Finlay

Ethan Finlay is a winger for Duluth, Minnesota. He hs played for Columbus Crew and now plays for Minnesota United, and has 39 goals in his club career.

Mississippi – Marlon Hariston 

Marlon Hariston is a winger from Jackson, Mississippi. Marlon has played with the Colorado Rapids since 2014 and went on loan for a year in 2015 with Charlotte Independence for a year and has been with the Rapids since and has had 8 goals in his club career.

Missouri – Tim Ream

Tim Ream is a defender from St. Louis, Missouri. He has played for New York Red Bulls, Bolton Wanderers, and Fulham. He has been with Fulham since 2015 and has 3 goals. He has 1 goals for the USMNT in 26 appearances.

Montana – Zac Lubin 

Zac Lubin is a goalkeeper from Bozeman, Montana. He has played for, Kitsap Pumas, IFK Lulea, Tulsa Rednecks, Swope Park Rangers, Ljungskile SK, Phoenix Rising, and now is on loan for the Sounders.

Nebraska – Brent Kallman

Brent Kallman is a defender from Omaha, Nebraska. Brent has played for, Des Moies Menace, and Minnesota United since 2013 and has had a total of 5 goals in his club career.

Nevada – Christian Volesky 

Christian Volesky is a forward from Henderson, Nevada. Christian has played for FC Tucson, Rochester Rhinos, Saint Louis FC, and now plays for Oklahoma City Energy. He has a total of 41 goals in his club career.

New Hampshire – Conor Casey

North Carolina – Eddie Pope

Eddie Pope is a defender from Greensboro, North Carolina. Eddie Pope is the best defender from the U.S in my eyes. He has played for, DC United, New York Metro Stars, and Real Salt Lake. He has a total 18 goals in all of his career.

North Dakota – Sean Totsch 

Sean Totsch is a defender from Fargo, North Dakota. Sean has played for Rochester Rhinos, and now plays for Louisville City FC. He has a total of 3 goals in his club career.

Ohio – Darlington Nagbe 

Darlington Nagbe is a central midfielder from Liberia. Although Nagbe wasn’t born in Ohio, he grew up in Ohio, in Lakewood, Ohio. He has played for, Cleveland Internationals, Portland Timbers, and now plays for Atlanta United. Darlington has a total of 31 goals in his club career.

Oklahoma – Zach Loyd

Zach Loyd is a defender from Tulsa, Oklahoma. He has played for, Carolina Dynamo, FC Dallas, and Atlanta United and has a total of 9 goals in his club career.

Oregon – Erik Hurtado

Erik Hurtado is a forward who grew up in Beaverton, Oregon. Erik has plays for Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS and has gone on loans with smaller teams in the past. Erik has a total of 26 goals in his club career.

Pennsylvania – Christian Pulisic 

Christian Pulisic is a attacking midfielder from Hershey, Pennsylvania. The 20 year old has only played for Borussia Dortmund and has 10 goals for them. Most people think that the young midfielder is currently the best U.S player.

Rhode Island – Michael Parkhurst 

Michael Parkhurst is a defender from Providence, Rhode Island. There isn’t much competition in Rhode Island, but there is no need. Michael has played for, Bradenton Academics, New England Revolution, FCN, FC Augsburg, Columbus Crew, and now, Atlanta United, where hes captain. He has a total of 6 goals in his club career.

South Carolina – Enzo Martinez

Enzo Martinez is an attacking midfielder who grew up in Rock Hill, South Carolina. He has played for Real Salt Lake, Carolina Railhawks, Charlotte Independence, and now Colorado Rapids. he has a total of 38 goals in his club career.

South Dakota – Ryan Walker

Ryan Walker is a midfielder from Rapid City, South Dakota. He has played for, Myrtle Beach FC, Wilmington, Charleston Battery, Raleigh Express, and Atlanta Silverbacks. He has a total of 46 goals in his club career.

Tennessee – Richard Mulrooney

Richard Mulrooney was a defender from Memphis, Tennessee. He played for, Nashville Metros, San Jose Earthquakes, FC Dallas, Toronto FC, and Houston Dynamo. He has had a total of 8 goals in his club career.

Washington DC – Oguchi Onyewu

West Virginia – Chase Harrison
