Croc Comeback: Our childhood shoes are becoming a new fashion statement

Did you know most of the popular shoes we wear today were most likely worn by our parents and possibly our grandparents? Converse, Birkenstocks and Keds are a few brands of shoes that have made a boom in the 21st century. Since all of these brands have made their comebacks within 10 to 30 years of being made, it is now time for Crocs to come back into style.

When crocs came out in 2002, they were originally made to be worn on a boat. These slip proof, water proof and odor proof shoes instantly became a trend for men, women and children, despite their funny design. In 2006, Croc lovers could begin filling in their Croc holes with different designs and objects called Jibbitz. This became really popular for young kids as Jibbitz were made into their favorite t.v. show characters and sports equipment.  

It’s already been 15 years since Crocs first came out, and now they are slowly coming back into style. Now you may see more people, especially girls, wearing them before or after sporting events, to casual outings, or even to school.

Now that these silly looking shoes are becoming a new trend, it’s time we recognize one Croc lover who kept wearing Crocs even when they weren’t in style. Annee Lasley, a freshman here at Greenwood, has been wearing crocs since she was four. Annee has seven different pairs of Crocs in the colors red, white, green, blue and yellow. She also has a pair of tropical patterned Crocs and a pair of caramel colored Crocs. “I wear them a lot of times in the summer to the pool or at a volleyball tournament.”

Annee loves to style her Crocs with Jibbitz, and has between 10 to 20 different kinds.“My favorite are the owl faces on my white crocs.”

Not everyone is a fan of Crocs. One of Annee’s biggest Croc haters is Mr. Davis. “I wrote a Croc essay, and I’m pretty sure he didn’t give me a 100 on it because it was about Crocs.”

Annee plans to keep wearing Crocs to casual outings as she gets older, and would really like to have a gold pair of Crocs. “…If they create light up crocs, I would want those”.

Crocs are slowly becoming more popular, but will they make a full comeback, or will they be forgotten?
