Gorillaz, a British virtual band that debuted in 1998, has recently had a comeback with their new album, “Humanz.”

While Gorillaz naturally doesn’t have a set genre, most of their music is a mix alternative hip hop, electronica, hip hop, rock, and trip hop. It’s band members include: Noodle, 2-D, Murdoc Niccals, and Russel Hobbs, but most of the singing and voicing is done by different people outside of the animations. Damon Albarn, one of the creators of the band, voices 2-D. Jamie Hewlett is also the co-creator of Gorillaz.

Like most Gorillaz’s albums, they include lyrics that actually tie into something in real life. The album has topics related to 2017 like war, racism, and other events happening internationally, specifically in their song Ascension.

Right now, my favorite track is Andromeda feat. D.R.A.M. The main reason is because of the mellow feeling of the song, but also because I haven’t heard anything like it come out this year.

While I think that the album was good overall, I understand that many people have felt a little upset with it in some areas. Whether it was because of the amount of other artists mixed in instead of just Gorillaz, or the fact that people just didn’t feel the same way about this album compared to other ones, the album has gotten mixed reviews.

So, what do other fans think?

Zelda Little, another current Gorillaz fan, wasn’t a big fan of the album. The thing she liked the least about it was the fact that she just wanted to hear from the band mostly instead of a bunch of other small artists, but she also thought that it was slightly good to help beginner artists get out there.

Zelda said that she felt that there was just something missing from Humanz.

She agreed that she would certainly come back to listen to it after getting her opinions on the songs, but definitely wasn’t what she expected after such a long wait. Her favorite song from the album is Busted and Blue.

Haylea Hunt, another fan that I interviewed, also had a similar opinion. “All the songs have someone featured in it. I wanna hear them,” she stated. She wanted the album to focus much more on the band instead of outside DJ’s and singers. The song on the album that she enjoyed the most was Momentz.

To sum it up, I feel like the album could’ve both added and took away things to make the general feel of it better. I agreed with the fans that I interviewed that they should cut down the amount of featured artists. It certainly wasn’t my favorite album by this band, but I can’t say that I could ever feel disappointed by Gorrilaz.
