Her teaching background:

Mrs. Willingham is one of the many Biology Teachers at Greenwood. She has been teaching for 26 years but this is the 3rd and final school she teached at. Before coming to Greenwood Mrs. Willingham also taught at Green County High for 2 years and Mercer County High for 2 years.

Throughout her years here she has taught many subjects inside biology but right now she is teaching Biology 1 and anatomy and physiology. Her mother, father and grandfather were all teachers and she was not planning on becoming a teacher. However, when in college she graduated 3 years early and since she was still young she decided to get her teaching degree just in case and then ended up teaching. She only plans on teaching one more year. “I have been at Greenwood for 22 years and plans on walking out with this years juniors. She choose to teach biology because that was her favorite subject in high school. She also says “It is the best to teach with all the stuff you get to do.”

About her farm:

Mrs. Willingham and her husband own “Just Piddlin Farm” in South Union Kentucky which is about 20 minutes away. They raise mostly row crops but also have an agritourism site where they raise about 8 and a half acres of pumpkin and also have an 8 acre corn maze along with a building they call “The Hive.” They rent  “The Hive” out for birthday parties and events. When they are open in the fall they will sell baked goods, food and let groups come out and tour. “For 10 weeks in the fall we are usually really busy and i will work about 12 hours each day.” Mrs. Willingham states during her interview.

When kids think of a teacher they think of someone who only teaches, grades papers and does nothing else. While talking to Mrs. Willingham i learned that is not true. Teachers, just like students, do other activities outside of school they enjoy. Teaching and working on a farm is two things she loves and does everyday. When you take some time to talk to someone you might actually learn something new about them.
