This past Saturday, the Gators took home not one but two wins on the field. Greenwood baseball triumphed over Nicholas County and Glasgow at home. According to Bowling Green Daily News, the team combined for 22 hits in the Saturday doubleheader.

The team’s morning began with a game against Nicholas County. After five innings, the final score was 13-3. Captain and senior Jack Blair went 3-3 at the plate during the course of the game. Junior John Hicks also went 3-3 and 4 RBIs.

Later that evening, the Gators rivaled the Scotties. After a rain delay, the game began with a slow start for Greenwood. Glasgow was able to score 3 runs and maintained the lead. Finally the Gators pulled it together and won the game with a score of 9-6.

Next week, Gator Baseball will travel to Myrtle Beach to compete in a tournament over Spring Break. While in South Carolina, the team will play four games.

Also this week, the Gators were named “High School Team of the Week” by Spectrum Sports Kentucky. They were impressed by the fact that Greenwood had won the last three of their four games, which included the two wins from Saturday. “The motto is answer the bell.  You know every game is a street fight and the bell rings as soon as that first pitch comes out.  That’s our thing, we are just going to come out and answer the bell no matter who the opponent,” Coach Jaggers said in an interview with Spectrum.

The baseball season is just getting into swing. Obviously we are not the only ones impressed with the team and it is only March.  The Gators have a 7-5 record this season and we cannot wait to see what else they can do.
