GHS Musical, Bye Bye Birdie, Was Spectacular

This weekend, Greenwood High School performed their take on the musical, Bye Bye Birdie.

Freshman J.J. Gibson croons in the title role of Conrad Birdie.

The musical, a story set in the year of 1958, is about a well-known and loved musician named Conrad Birdie, played by J.J Gibson. Conrad, a man fancied by teenagers all across America, gets drafted to the army and has to leave the music industry.

His agent, Mr. Peterson, played by Ben Morrison,  has a failing company and now that Conrad is leaving, he must end his business. Mr. Peterson decides to have a contest appealing to the teenage girls of America, winning a kiss from Conrad Birdie before he gets drafted into the army.

Personally, I thought the musical was spectacular. Music and dancing can make, or break, a musical. Luckily, the pit made beautiful music and the people performed wonderful dances.

The song Telephone Hour and the dance accompanying it was one of my favorites. The vibrant colors and they beautiful backdrop made the dance one of the best in the musical. The whole story was interesting and kept the audience intrigued the whole time.

Juniors Gabe Nasato and Jannah Bolin played lead roles in “Bye Bye Birdie.”

The comedy was portrayed excellently and Kylie Bray made the musical hilarious and left the audience wanting more of her role as Mae, Mr. Peterson’s mom.

Overall, if you didn’t see the musical this weekend, you missed a lovely performance. It was remarkable and presented very well. If you missed the musical this year, make sure to go see it next year for, hopefully, an equal or better performance.
