The two advanced choirs, SSA and SATB, went to Van Meter Hall Tuesday, April 19and each choir performed three songs for the judges. The judges scored the Gator singers on sight reading, which is when the students get a piece of music that they have never seen before and only have a certain amount of time to look over it, then they sing it on the solfeggi syllables (Do-Re-Mi-Fa-Sol-La-Ti-Do) or whichever syllables they use (ex. numbers, Ooo’s, etc).

IMG_1056SSA is the all-women’s choir, and they scored distinguished on all three of their pieces. They performed Shannon Doah, O Venturoso día, and Chariots Coming, scoring a 35 out of 40 on their sight reading.

SATB would be the mixed choirs; they scored distinguished on all their pieces. They performed For The Beauty of the Earth, Dixit Maria, and My Soul’s been Anchored in the Lord, scoring a perfect 40 out of 40 on their sight reading.

“I was very proud that both my choirs got all distinguished scores on the performance and sight reading,” said Ms. Osborne. Both SSA and SATB choirs have qualified to go to state.

My Soul’s been Anchored in the Lord will also be performed at the end of the year choir concert, which will be on May 12.
