The True Meaning of Easter

By Andrew Carpenter, Reporter

Most people view Easter as a chance to get loads of candy, money, and other gifts. But what is Easter really about? I’m sure everyone knows why we celebrate this holiday, but that doesn’t mean all of them celebrate it to praise the day Jesus rose from the dead. His resurrection didn’t just show that he can do anything, it represents that anyone who believes in him will have eternal life. Not everyone understands that so it is important to spread the word and attempt to get others to celebrate Easter the way it is supposed to be celebrated.

It’s sad to see that almost every child/teen just sees Easter as a chance to fill up on candy. Even some parents don’t know, or care, about what Easter is all about. It’s important that Parents teach their kids why Easter is celebrated so they can pass it on to their kids and the tradition can go on. Even Good Friday is losing it’s meaning, people just enjoy it because they get the day off. But really, good friday is to remember what Jesus and God did for us. Jesus was beaten almost to death then hung on the cross and left to die. God gave up his only son so we could live happily.

At dinner, parents, or grandparents, don’t stop everything to say a prayer or at least thank Jesus for what he did. No one says you have to pray before dinner, but it would still be a good way to show Jesus you know why the day is being celebrated.
