What Makes a Good Student?

By Kaydyn massey, Reporter

While sitting in class I often start to

think Do this teacher like me? Do they think I’m a good student? If so how would they describe a good student? What does it take to be one? Every person has their own opinion about everything so, you may think differently from me or you might think I’m right but I left out a few things. Teachers might think differently from what I think as well.

Good students should always be

prepared for every class and be responsible. They should come to class with all they required materials such as a pencil, paper, completed homework, books, and maybe a calculator depending on what class you have. Good students should always bring extras just in case you something happened like you broke your pencil or you accidentally ripped your piece of paper. The should be responsible enough to turn their homework in on time even if they were absent they should turn it in during the days they give you to complete it.

They should have a positive attitude

during the school day and be willing to learn. So a good student would not complain about how much homework they are going to have to do later that night, which could be loads but, that is unlikely. If they don’t understand it then they will ask their teacher how to do the assignment. A good student would help others to understand the material given by that teacher. They wouldn’t complain about how the other student keeps getting it wrong, instead they would try harder to get the student to understand. They would treat other students with respect and not question anything that might be personal to that particular student.

Good students would try their

hardest to get a good grade in their classes. They would study for test even if it meant they couldn’t do the things they would like to do instead. They wouldn’t completely blow off assignments just because there was a new episode of their favorite TV show coming on or that there was a sale at their favorite store that they just couldn’t miss. They would work their butt off just to get the grade they want and to impress their teacher. Good students would give everything up to do well in school. To them doing well in school is their biggest goal because they want to have a bright future. They want to pursue all of their dreams.

Good students would always do the

right thing even when the teacher isn’t looking. If they are supposed to be reading then they would be reading. If someone dropped something they would give it back. If they caught someone cheating they would tell the teacher everyone gets finished so they don’t interrupt other students taking the test. When the teacher has forgotten something that student would tell them. If they had found the answer key to the test they immediately turn it in without looking at any of the answers. Good students would never anything that would disrupt the teacher while he/she would be talking. They would be polite and laugh or giggle at another student’s comment.

If a student like this came by

teachers would praise that student and forever wish that all students were like this one, but as you see we are not perfect and can forget things easily and give in to things like wanting to watch the new episode of their favorite TV show. This gives you an idea of what we could be if we tried to be a good student not that I am saying you aren’t we all just have our faults. This is what we should strive to be, or at least try to be somewhat like it.
