Warren County Redistricting

By Helena Ysasaga, Reporter

Warren County is currently redrawing district lines due to overpopulation in the schools. Does this mean some Greenwood High School students will be moved to another school due to the location of their home?

According to WBKO News, On September 15, 2015, they held a public hearing opinion about the redistricting. Many parents were upset about the idea of how their child will to be moved to a different school. But, some parents also think it doesn’t about the placement of the school, as long as the child got a education. Sheila Stephens, a parent of a Warren Central High School freshman and a Henry F. Moss Middle School seventh-grader, attended the meeting at Warren Central High School’s auditorium. She said, “Regardless of location, I want to make sure that my child and every-one else’s child is given the same opportunity to get the same education.”

Warren County has a wide variety of schools, 22 to be exact. (Not counting academies and centers) So there are many schools to be placed in. The thing is it will be hard for some people if for example, a senior will be transferred to a new school. On his/her last year of high school, and since they moved they won’t know anyone. Which means spending the senior year not speaking to anyone or really getting involved as much as you would be in your original high school you’ve been comfortable in and been in for about 3 years. Another example would be if you’re a freshmen and don’t know anyone, and you were finally starting to get comfortable. The board of Warren County says you have to be moved to a different school, and start all over again.

Warren County is currently still making decisions about the process that they are working on right now. So we won’t know anything until an official announcement has been made.
